A deep, solid black fills the entire field, crossed by bold white lines that form a large free-form composition across the full surface. The marks are varied and deliberate, large X forms in the upper left and lower right, a horizontal rectangular shape in the center left, a double mountain or M form in the lower center, a framed triangular figure in the upper right, and fine diagonal lines connecting the elements across the field. The composition feels like a drawing made on the loom, raw and confident and completely original.
This rug sits at the intersection of Amazigh craft tradition and contemporary artistic expression. The X forms draw from the ancient cross motifs of Berber textiles, inspired by the crossroads of mountain paths where Berber tribes gathered to trade and share stories across the Atlas region. The mountain forms in the lower field echo the peaks of the Atlas range that have defined the Berber visual landscape for centuries. The framed triangular figure in the upper right draws from the Tifinagh script and symbolic marks that Berber weavers have embedded in textiles for generations, each mark a trace of identity and memory.
