The central field is filled with a dense all-over checkerboard in warm terracotta and soft peach, the two tones close in depth but distinct enough to give the pattern real rhythm and movement. A bold blue and terracotta checkered border frames the entire piece on all four sides, sharpening the composition with a strong graphic edge. The overall effect is warm, energetic, and completely confident.
The checkerboard draws from the patchwork of cultivated fields and sun-baked earth of the Moroccan countryside, land divided and tended by Berber communities across generations. Here the inner field plays in warm earthy tones while the border introduces the deep blue, a color drawn from the open sky above the Atlas Mountains and the famous blue pigments used in Berber decorative craft for centuries. The contrast between the warm inner field and the cool blue border gives the rug a strong sense of structure, each zone distinct, the whole composition held together with intention. Ivory fringe finishes both ends.

I love my new rug! It’s so soft and the colors were very well represented in the Etsy photos. The shipping took longer than expected, but I asked for a custom pile height, and Amir was prompt and courteous in updating me…. So really no complaints. No weird smell, not a lot of shedding, and I accidentally dropped a little water on the rug and it beaded up rather than absorbing in… a mark of very high quality wool. This rug was a small fraction of the price of similar rugs at places like Design Within Reach. Another bonus is supporting artisans in their communities. Highly recommend this store.

This review is in consideration of how much money was spent for a handmade rug and the expectation to get quality for the price. The color of the rug I received doesn’t exactly match the picture. I thought the center colors would be more brown/tan but the color is actually pink and brown and the blue isn’t a dark blue but more of an electric blue. Also one square of color was out of place but I am able to cover with furniture. Even so, still love the combination with my living room. Customer service was amazing and I was informed with tracking and updates during the process.
