This is a brown and ivory checkered Beni Ourain rug, hand-knotted in our workshop in Morocco. Warm medium brown and natural ivory alternate in an even grid of rounded squares across the entire field, the brown rendered in a shaggy high pile while the ivory squares sit flatter and smoother beneath. The interplay between the two textures gives the checkerboard pattern a tactile depth that shifts beautifully as the light moves across the surface throughout the day.
The checkerboard draws from the patchwork of cultivated fields and sun-baked earth of the Moroccan countryside, land divided and tended by Berber communities across generations. Here the pattern is rendered in two earthy tones that sit naturally together, warm brown against undyed ivory, a palette drawn entirely from the Moroccan landscape itself. The variation between pile heights in each square gives the surface a living, organic quality that no machine could replicate, each row a decision made by hand. Ivory hand-knotted fringe finishes both ends.

Why you'll love it:

- Authentic Beni Ourain rug, hand-knotted by Berber artisans in Morocco
- High and low pile texture, 100% natural wool, no synthetics, no machine finishing
- Warm brown and natural ivory checkered pattern with contrasting pile heights
- Custom sizes available, woven to order in 3 to 5 weeks.
- Ships worldwide in 4 to 7 business days.
- DDP shipping included (no extra customs fees, duty-free delivery).

Made entirely by hand on a traditional loom. No machines, no shortcuts. Every knot tied by a skilled artisan, every row built one thread at a time. Natural wool softens with use, becoming more itself the longer it is lived with.
Pairs beautifully with warm wood, linen, rattan, and natural textures. A grounded, earthy choice for a living room or bedroom that draws from the natural world.
Slight color variation is natural in hand-dyed wool. Questions are always welcome.
