This is a brown and black Beni Ourain rug, hand-knotted in our workshop in Morocco. A deep, warm brown fills the entire field in a dense shaggy pile, cut through by fine black lines that run vertically from top to bottom in even intervals across the full width. At the center of the upper field, the vertical lines break into a bold nested rectangle composition, stepping inward toward a central form before returning to their downward path. The composition is architectural and commanding, tonal and deeply textured.
The vertical lines draw from the rivers and seasonal streams that run down from the Atlas Mountains through the valley floors below, lines of movement and life running through the Berber landscape from one community to the next. The nested rectangle form at the center reflects the architecture of Berber villages, homes built within walls, communities gathered within boundaries, one layer of belonging inside another. The tonal palette of warm brown against deep black keeps the composition grounded and serious, letting the structure of the pattern carry all the weight. White hand-knotted fringe finishes both ends.
Why you'll love it:
- Authentic Beni Ourain rug, hand-knotted by Berber artisans in Morocco
- High shaggy pile, 100% natural wool, no synthetics, no machine finishing
- Warm brown field with black vertical stripe and central nested rectangle pattern
- Custom sizes available, woven to order in 3 to 5 weeks.
- Ships worldwide in 4 to 7 business days.
- DDP shipping included (no extra customs fees, duty-free delivery).
Made entirely by hand on a traditional loom. No machines, no shortcuts. Every knot tied by a skilled artisan, every row built one thread at a time. Natural wool softens with use, becoming more itself the longer it is lived with.
Pairs beautifully with dark wood, aged leather, raw plaster, and warm metals. A strong, grounded choice for a large living room or bedroom.
Slight color variation is natural in hand-dyed wool. Questions are always welcome.

Our handmade rug is just as nice as it looked in the pictures! The seller was very communicative throughout making and shipping it (to Alaska no less!) and it arrived in perfect condition. Highly recommend!

I’m giving 5 stars because the shop did everything they could to give good service. The first rug they made was not the exact color I expected so they offered to re make it which I greatly appreciated. This one is exactly what I had pictured and it is even softer than I thought it would be. Very friendly and responsive as well. Would order again on my next project
