The lines vary slightly in weight and spacing, giving the composition an organic energy that stops it from feeling mechanical. The overall effect is dramatic and confident, a rug that fills a room with movement and presence.
The chevron is one of the most enduring forms in Amazigh weaving, drawn from the rivers and streams that wind through the Atlas Mountains, lines of movement and life running through the Berber landscape from one community to the next. The mirrored composition, two sets of diagonal lines meeting at a central axis, reflects the Berber understanding of balance, the landscape seen from both sides of the mountain, two halves of the same world held in symmetry. The variation in line weight across the field reflects the hand of the weaver, every row a decision made in the moment. White hand-knotted fringe finishes both ends.
