This is a black and ivory flatweave kilim, handwoven in our workshop in Morocco. A deep, solid black field fills the entire central portion of the rug, flat and dense with a subtle woven texture that catches the light across its surface. A bold ivory zigzag border runs along all four edges, the sharp teeth of the pattern cutting inward against the black field with real graphic force. Black and white dot detail finishes the top edge and fringe, tying the border and the field together in a clean, considered frame.
The zigzag border draws from the rivers and streams that wind through the Atlas Mountains, a form that has carried meaning in Amazigh weaving for generations, lines of movement and life running through the Berber landscape. Here the zigzag is used as a border running the full perimeter of the rug, a continuous line of protection enclosing the solid field within. In the Berber weaving tradition, a strong enclosing border reflects the value placed on defining and protecting the space within the home. The solid black field at the center is a confident, quiet choice, the skill of the weaver visible in the evenness and density of the flatweave throughout. Black and white dot fringe finishes both ends.

Der Teppich ist in der Herstellung ziemlich grösser ausgefallen als bestellt. Ich wurde aber vor dem Versand angefragt, ob das trotzdem passt. Jetzt passt der grössere Teppich sogar fast besser! Vielen Dank. Da merkt man, dass das alles Handarbeit ist und jeder Teppich ein Einzelstück.
